Robben island and township tour
Explore the culture and history of townships. Meet the locals, visit a crèche and drink home- brewed beer. This is a must for anyone who wants an authentic view of South African life. After spending the morning in the local townships, take the ferry from the Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront to Robben Island. Ex-inmates guide the tours and recount their experiences and hardships while imprisoned on the island.

Depart from Cape Town on the famous TransKaroo train for a two-day trip on the “Forgotten Route”. You’ll visit iconic landmarks and Anglo-Boer battle sites as well as experience true South African culture and share stories with local winemakers and musicians of the Karoo plains. In little towns, known as “dorpies”, you can taste local produce, ride through majestic mountains and sense the weird and wonderful of this historic route with ghost tours, stargazing, myths and legends.

You will visit the Klein Plasie Museum and experience how the people lived hundreds of years ago. You’ll stop in the desert oasis of Matjiesfontein, a town frozen in time, where you will experience one of the weirdest museums in Africa, a bizarre bus tour with a BBQ (braai) under the stars. Finish your day off with a traditional ghost tour and some honky-tonk around the pub piano.

After breakfast you will visit a biltong (the most famous of our local delicacies) factory and then a trip through the stunning Seweweekspoort Pass to Ronnie’s Sex Shop! A lunch stop with winetasting takes place in Bonnivale before you head on back to Cape Town able to admire amazing landscapes.
