1. Volunteer Co-Ordinator

The Position
The Volunteer Coordinator will work under supervision of the Volunteer Department Manager. This is a dynamic role, perfect for someone with a lot of energy and enthusiasm who is trying to gain supervisory experience.

Application Requirements
• The job position is from 3 – 12 months
• Experience in administrative and/or managerial positions
• At least 20 years old
• Valid drivers license (PDP license a bonus)

Responsibilities
• As a volunteer coordinator you will be required to be at projects on a daily basis to supervise and assist volunteers
• Transportation to projects 4 – 6 days a week
• Assist with collections
• Ensuring there is appropriate support and training for volunteers
• Organising rotas and providing inductions and training
• Monitoring, supporting, motivating and accrediting volunteers and their work
• Attending committees and meetings
• Generating income, writing funding bids and fundraising to make projects sustainable
• Data capturing, maintaining databases and undertaking any other administrative duties

2. Education and Teaching

The Position
More than 6.4 million people in South Africa are illiterate. To combat this we have early childhood development to primary education development programmes. Projects can include assisting with childhood literacy projects, mentoring students, working as a teacher’s assistant, leading life skills workshops, assisting with sports programs, researching educational policy, and contributing to the overall operations of education programs.

Application Requirements
• The position is a 3 – 12 months contract
• A diploma in teaching is required (experienced teachers will have preference)
• A valid driving license (PDP license would be a bonus)
• At least 20 years old
• A person who likes to take initiative
• Creative and likes to bring your own ideas about teaching and education in general to the country
• In possession of good social and communicative skills
• Well-spoken and articulate in the English language, as well as good English writing skills

Responsibilities
• Assist in maintaining the curriculum that is already in place under the direction of the Head Teacher
• Support Head Teacher in the process of developing and sharing classroom activities to meet developmental and academic objectives
• Use constructive feedback from Head Teacher and SAVE to improve classroom environment
• Develop, maintain, and implement a classroom maintenance schedule with Head Teacher, including but not limited to items such as cleaning the classroom, repairing materials, and planning events. Also assist in record keeping for the classroom
• Maintaining a positive attitude and open communication with Head Teacher
• You will be required at projects on a daily basis to supervise and assist volunteersMaybe required to transport volunteers to projects 4 – 6 days a week
• Assist with collections

3. Marketing and Media

The Position
Public Relations and Marketing Intern who is excited to apply their academic knowledge to real-world writing, media relations, marketing and promotions scenarios.

Application Requirements
• Position is 3 – 12 months
• Student of marketing studies
• At least 20 years old
• Good English (written and spoken)
• Good team player
• Attention to detail, efficiency, good people skills, strong sales driven personality, high energy, independent, pro-active

Responsibilities
• E-Marketing
• PR
• Social Media Marketing
• Writing PR materials or marketing copy including press releases, website copy, coordinating program books and speciality publications
• Managing PR archives and photo resources
• Preparing media kits
• Planning special events or promotions
• Working with other departments to improve communication efforts
• Interacting with outside design vendors and members of the media
• Assisting with social media outreach efforts with possible opportunities for filming
• Interviewing and editing video
• Collecting research and assisting SAVE’s overall marketing and PR campaigns

4. Sports and Youth Development

The Position
Give young people who are deprived of sporting facilities the opportunity to play sport, learn about the environment and integrate – as team-mates – with other communities on the sports fields.

Application Requirements
• Position is 3 – 12 months
• Experience in coaching and/or playing sports
• At least 20 years old
• Good English (spoken)
• Good team player
• Attention to detail, efficiency, good people skills, high energy, independent, pro active
• Valid drivers license (PDP License a bonus)

Responsibilities
• Coach different types of sports at several different disadvantaged schools (you can coach hockey, volleyball, soccer, rugby, basketball, tennis, cricket etc.)
• Teach children (social) skills while teaching them how to play sports
• It is expected that the volunteer can lead a group and work well together with the other coaches
• Apart from the sports programme educational lessons are planned by volunteers and presented to children of various age groups
• For children and coaches it is most relevant that they can learn skills which will stay once the volunteer is gone; focus is on sustainability
• Accompany teams and individuals to matches, trips and trials
• Fetching children from their School for their sports programme – children have to be collected on with a vehicle and taken back to school

5. Building and Maintenance

The Position
Keeping the projects we work with safe, secure and in good condition is a full time job. We are looking for active, energetic and hands on Interns to help us maintain and help build at our various projects.

Application Requirements
• Position is 3 – 12 months
• Basic knowledge of usage of power tools
• Experience in general maintenance
• At least 21 years old
• Follow instructions well
• Good English (spoken)
• Good team player
• Attention to detail, efficiency, disciplined, good people skills, high energy, take own initiative, pro active
• Be honest and reliable
• Valid drivers license (PDP License a bonus)

Responsibilities
• Assisting with driving of volunteers
• Maintenance of vehicles
• General house maintenance
• Building and repairing housing at informal settlements
• Training and assisting volunteers with basic construction
• It is expected that the volunteer can lead a group
• Fetching and dropping off children from their school for their sports programmes
• Be a good role model

6. Hospitality and Tourism

The Position
Reception, front of house work in a 5 star Hostel in Cape Town.  You will work with a dynamic team learning about tourism in South Africa while experiencing day-to-day running of a hostel/ guest house

• Day to day running of reception
• Booking tours and transfers
• Checking in and out guests
• Dealing with cash ups
• Answering emails and reception phone
• Dealing with guests daily
• Managing house keeping
