Janika is the Educare coordinator – she ensures that the volunteers are fulling their duties at the schools their working in and prepared for the week ahead. She loves to be at the schools with the children and it has been said that she is good at putting on a dance show for all the kids. Janika can often be found feeding the tortoises, walking the dogs on the beach or eating pizza.
What do you do daily?
I am the Educare Coordinator and I work at the schools in the township. I work together with the volunteers and local teachers. I visit the schools and insure that volunteers are enjoying their experience and that the local teachers and volunteers are working well together. Most importantly I make sure that the children are having fun and that they are learning.
What is your favourite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is working in the community and getting to know the local teachers and the children. By staying here for a longer time, I have been able to build special relationships with our teachers and the children.
If you’re not working where will we find you?
When I’m not working you will find me on the beach with the dogs, at a local market or at Saltycrax feeding tortoises.
If you were trapped on a desert island and you could only have one food what would it be?
If I was trapped on a desert island, I would bring creamy butternut soup with me. (You’ll have to try it, when you come to South Africa!)
A Random thing about you?
I have a funky sock collection.
